Terre Haute, Ind. – The Wheaton College men's cross country team finished ninth in a 32-team field on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships. This year's performance improved on Wheaton's 12th-place finish at the 2011 Division III Championships.
North Central College repeated as National Champions, scoring 167 points to finish first. Calvin College took second place, with 188 points, Haverford was third with 189 points, UW-LaCrosse took fourth with 190 points, , Washington University (Mo,) scored 226 points in fifth place, Bates scored 260 points in sixth place, Tufts, finished seventh with 265 points, Middlebury took eighth with place with 286 points, Wheaton scored 315 points in ninth place and UW-Eau Claire finished 10th with 323 points.
Junior
Jake Waterman was the top performer for the Thunder with a time of 24:57.5 in 22nd place.
James Waterman (PICTURED LEFT) posted a time of 25:02.3 to finish in 31st place on the 8K course. Both runners earned All-American recognition from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their effort. The USTFCCCA awards All-American recognition to the top 35 runners at the championship.
