Thunder women's cross country team takes third at 2012 CCIW Championships

The Wheaton College cross country programs hosted the 2012 CCIW Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon at St. James Farm Forest Preserve. The Thunder women's program finished third and the Wheaton men were second.

Illinois Wesleyan won its first CCIW Championship in the 6K women's race with 32 total points. Augustana finished second with 74 points, Wheaton scored 88 points in third place, North Central finished fourth with 98 points, Carthage scored 127 points in fifth place, Elmhurst took sixth with 150 points, Millikin scored 180 points in seventh place and North Park finished eighth with 250 points.

Thunder sophomore Emma Gilbertson was Wheaton's top performer with a time of 22:48, earning First Team All-CCIW honors in sixth place. Senior Annie Shults (PICTURED LEFT) finished eighth with a time of 22:59 to earn First Team All-Conference recognition.

Freshman Jordan Tuin finished 24th with a time of 23:48 and sophomore Abby Bullmore posted a time of 23:51 to finish 26th. Senior Hillary Topazian ran the course in 23:56 to finish 30th, Lauren Hanson was 36th with a time of 24:08 and junior Emma Krieter was 41st in 24:20.
