Thunder men's cross country team takes second at the CCIW Championship

The Wheaton College cross country programs hosted the 2012 CCIW Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon at St. James Farm Forest Preserve. The Thunder men's program finished second and the Wheaton women were third.

North Central won the 8K men's race with 19 total points, as the Cardinals won the CCIW Championship for the 39th consecutive year. Wheaton placed five runners in the top-20 to finish second with 55 points. Augustana was just behind the Thunder with 62 points in third place, Illinois Wesleyan scored 124 points in fourth place, Carthage scored 152 points in fifth place, Elmhurst scored 168 points in sixth place and Millikin finished seventh with 212 points.

Thunder junior Jake Waterman had the top performance for Wheaton with a time of 24:39 to finish six-seconds behind the CCIW Champion. Waterman earned First Team All-CCIW recognition, finishing in fourth place.

Wheaton junior James Waterman finished eighth with a time of 24:56 to earn First Team All-Conference honors.  Senior Mark Phillips (PICTURED LEFT) was a Second Team All-CCIW performer with a time of 25:11 in 11th place. Senior Parker Thompson ran the course in 25:16 to finish 13th, earning All-CCIW Second Team recognition.  Nate Hatton took 21st in 25:50, senior Nate Veldt was 24th with a time of 26:06 and Alex Holle finished 26th in 26:10.
