Wheaton, Ill.
- The Wheaton College women's soccer team finished its season-opening Bob Baptista Invitational weekend with a 1-0 victory over University of Dubuque on Saturday.

The No. 12-ranked Thunder improved to 2-0 on the season while the Spartans fell to 2-1.

After a quiet first 15 minutes, Wheaton began an onslaught of shots against the Dubuque defense. The final 10 minutes of the half saw the Thunder push the action hard with runs to the box from all over the field, but the pressure couldn't quite convert into quality shots on goal. Even though the hosts held a 15-1 shot advantage at halftime, the score remained tied 0-0.

The offensive attack continued in the second half and finally paid dividends at 51:05 as Katelyn Kishkunas chipped an arcing shot right between the goalie and the crossbar from 22 yards out. Jaime Orewiler earned the assist in the scramble before the shot.

Dubuque pushed back with urgency in the game's final 15 minutes. However, Wheaton kept the Spartans by dominating possession and winning 50-50 balls while still pushing up the field consistently.

The final shot tally ended 29-4 in favor of the Thunder as Kishkunas attempted nine shots while Orewiler took six shots. Winning goalkeeper Hillary Barreto needed to make only one save to earn her first shutout of the year. Dubuque's Natalie Baker took the loss while making nine saves.

The Thunder continue its season schedule with a home game vs. Wartburg College at 4:30 PM on Tuesday.
