2010-11 Thunder Sports Season Opens This Week

Wheaton, Ill. - The first Thunder sporting events of the 2010-11 school year will take place this week as Wheaton teams will be competing on campus and on the road.

The nationally ranked Thunder women's golf team will be the first team to compete in the 2010-11 athletics calendar when the team competes at the University of St. Francis Invitational in Kendallville, Indiana on August 30-31.

On Thursday September 2, the defending CCIW Champion Wheaton women's tennis team will open its season at Olivet Nazarene University. The first home event of the year will occur at 4:30 at Joe Bean Stadium when the nationally-ranked Thunder women's soccer team hosts Whitworth College in the first match of the three-team Bob Baptista Invitational for women's soccer. The 2010 Bob Baptista Invitational for women's soccer resumes at 11:30 AM on Friday when Whitworth faces the University of Dubuque at Joe Bean Stadium. The Bob Baptista Invitational for men's soccer will open on Friday when Elmhurst College takes on Ohio Wesleyan University at 2 PM and then the host Thunder men's soccer team will open its season at 7 PM with a match against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The women's golf team will return to action on Friday at the Robert Morris Fall Classic at Foss Park Golf Course in North Chicago, Illinois. The Thunder volleyball team will open its season on Friday with a pair of matches at the Elmhurst Invitational. The Elmhurst Invitational will conclude on Saturday September 4 PM. The men's golf team will open its fall season on Friday and Saturday at Olivet College's Lou Collins Memorial Classic in Battle Creek, Michigan.

The women's tennis team will travel to Rock Island, Illinois on Saturday, September 4 for matches against Augustana College and Luther College. The Thunder football team will prepare for its regular season opener with a scrimmage at Wabash College on Saturday afternoon in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

The Bob Baptista Invitationals will conclude on Saturday, beginning with a 2 PM match between the Rose-Hulman and Elmhurst men's soccer programs. The women's Baptista Tournament will conclude with the 4:30 PM match between the Thunder and Dubuque (WETN --- LIVESTATS). The men's tournament will finish on Saturday with the 7 PM match between Wheaton and Ohio Wesleyan (WETN --- LIVESTATS).
