Wheaton alumnus Brian Kolb signs a professional baseball contract with the Gary Railcats

Gary, Ind. - Brian Kolb, a May 2010 graduate of Wheaton, signed a professional contract on July 7 to play baseball with the Gary Railcats of Gary, Indiana. The Railcats play in the Northern League, an independent baseball league with teams across the Midwest. Kolb moves to the Railcats from the Milledgeville Capitals of the Peach State League. Kolb spent a brief time with the Capitals beginning June 23.

Kolb was 3-for-5 in the game, with all three of his hits coming as doubles. He scored two runs and drove in two more to help account for four of Milledgeville's seven runs in the victory. Defensively, he made five assists and took part in turning two double plays at second base.

In his final season at Wheaton, Kolb led the Thunder with a team-high .434 (72-166) batting average this year. He scored a school-record 57 runs in 2010, with 44 RBI and 10 stolen bases. He tied his own Wheaton single-season record with 19 doubles and also hit four home runs, with 31 walks. Kolb was the top CCIW player this year in runs scored (57), doubles (19) and was fifth in hits (72).

In his four seasons at Wheaton, Kolb set 10 career school records and holds an additional eight of Wheaton's single-season records. His 270 career base hits, is the most ever by a CCIW player, and ranks him 13th in NCAA Division III history in the category. His .450 (270-600) career batting average is 17th all-time in NCAA-III history.
