Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Wheaton College water polo team split its first two games of the Chatham University Invitational on Friday. The Thunder lost to Grove City College 10-5 and beat Washington & Jefferson College 11-10.
The Thunder ran its record to 2-2 on the year.
In the first game of the day, Grove City took a 4-1 lead at the half and came out firing in the third period to build a 10-2 lead that it would not relinquish. Wheaton got two goals each from
Emma Higgins and
Heather Crockett and one goal from
Kathryn Sheehy.
The second game was back-and-forth the whole way as the lead changed hands seven times total. Crockett scored the game-winning goal for Wheaton with only 10 seconds left in the final period. The Thunder scoring included five goals from Crockett, three goals from Higgins, two goals from
Jessica McGee and one goal by
Linley Sullivan.
The Thunder continue action at the Chatham Invitational with three matches on Saturday starting at 9:00 AM (ET).
