Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College (Ill.) men's basketball coach
Mike Schauer has announced the hiring of Owen Handy as the full time assistant coach for the Thunder men's basketball team. He replaces
Nate Frank, who left the position in May.
Handy previously served as a part-time assistant coach for the Thunder for the past five seasons, serving the program in many roles. The 2003 Wheaton graduate served as a student-assistant coach during the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons. A native of Holland, Michigan, Handy holds a Bachelor's Degree from Wheaton in Political Science and History. In 2006 he earned a Master's Degree in Teaching from Aurora University.
Schauer mentions, "I am very pleased to have Owen Handy promoted to the fulltime assistant position. He has earned the opportunity. He understands Wheaton, knows the type of student-athlete we need to attract to be successful, and has a tireless work ethic. He is someone I have known for several years and trust deeply."
Schauer and Handy will assume a Wheaton program that posted a 26-4 record in 2008-09, advancing to the NCAA Division III Sectional for the second consecutive year. Three starters are slated to return for Wheaton next year with senior All-Conference guard

Jake Carwell coming back for the Thunder. Forward
Tim McCrary also returns following a freshman campaign that saw him earn recognition as the D3hoops.com “Midwest Region Rookie of the Year”.
