Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's basketball team lost a 63-58 decision to Robert Morris University (Ill.) on Wednesday night in King Arena. Wheaton is now 4-3 on the year, while Robert Morris improves to 9-3. The Thunder will host Judson University on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM in King Arena.
Wheaton led the Eagles 31-28 at halftime. Robert Morris out-scored Wheaton 14-2 over the first 6:30 of the second half to take a nine-point lead at 42-33 with 13:30 remaining in the game. Wheaton countered with a 15-7 scoring surge of its own to cut the guests' lead to 49-48 with 6:05 left in regulation. However, Robert Morris out-scored the Thunder 10-3 over a span of 3:35 to take a 59-51 lead with 2:31 remaining in the game, helping lead the Eagles to the win.
Sophomore Lindsey Brenneman led the Thunder with 15 points on the night. Kelly Brooks scored 14 points off the Thunder bench, with nine rebounds. Senior guard Sarah Jones scored 12 points, with 10 rebounds and two steals. Annie Bowen scored seven points, with eight rebounds and three assists.
Jerita Gordon led Robert Morris with 20 points and seven rebounds. Jessica Harris scored 13 points, with five rebounds and six steals. Aubrey Sparrey added 12 points with six rebounds.
The Thunder shot a 36.5% (23-63) field goal percentage, with 13.3% (2-15) from three-point range and 50% (10-20) at the free throw line. The Eagle shot 37.9% (25-66) from the floor, with 33.3% (8-24) from behind the three-point arc and 55.6% (5-9) from the free throw line. Wheaton out-rebounded the Eagles 53-37, with a 21-11 edge on the offensive glass.
