Tim McCrary has been named the CCIW “Player of the Week” in men's basketball for the week ending December 13. This week's selection is McCrary's second recognition as the CCIW “Player of the Week” for this season. He also earned the award for the opening week of the season (11/23/09) Wheaton is currently 6-2 this season and is ranked eighth in the most recent D3hoops.com Top-25 poll.
McCrary averaged 26.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game for the Thunder in two games last week. The forward also averaged seven assists per game in a week that saw him shoot 67.6% (25-37) from the field. On Wednesday night, Wheaton narrowly lost at top-ranked Washington (Mo.) 64-62. McCrary scored 18 points, with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals against the two-time defending National Champions. On Saturday he led Wheaton to a 127-100 against the up-tempo Grinnell Pioneers. McCrary registered a "triple-double" against the Pioneers with career-highs of 35 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists.
McCrary leads the Thunder this season with averages of 19.3 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. The sophomore is shooting 56.5% (65-115) from the field this season and also has team-highs of 4.1 assists per game and 1.4 blocked shots per game. He currently leads the CCIW in rebounds and blocked shots, while he is second in the conference in assists and fourth in scoring.
McCrary has started each of Wheaton's 38 games since joining the program in the 2008-09 season. He has a 58.8% (173-294) field goal percentage in that time, averaging 11.3 points per game. McCrary has recorded an average of 6.4 rebounds, with 2.5 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per game in that span.
