Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton College men's basketball team, ranked eighth this week by D3hoops.com, was a 127-100 victor against Grinnell College on Saturday night in Wheaton's King Arena. Wheaton is now 6-2 on the season, while Grinnell holds a 1-7 record. The Thunder will be off until Dec. 29 when the team plays in the Thrivent Financial Tournament, hosted by California Lutheran University, as a part of Wheaton's three-game trip to Southern California.
Wheaton played well tonight against Grinnell's frenetic, up-tempo style of play. The 'Orange and Blue' jumped out to a 19-8 lead in the first 4:15 of the game. The Thunder's largest lead of the first half was a 28-point advantage at 53-25 with 6:02 left before halftime. The hosts led the Pioneers 67-45 at the intermission.

Spencer Schultze scored a basket to give the Thunder a 115-83 lead, that 32-point advantage was Wheaton's largest lead of the game.
Six Wheaton players scored in double-digits against the Pioneers. Sophomore
Tim McCrary tallied a “triple-double” for the Thunder as he recorded double-digits in points, rebounds and assists with career-highs in all three statistical categories. The forward scored 35 points, with 18 rebounds and 10 assists. Schultze shot 11-for-14 from the field as he scored 24 points with 10 rebounds to tally a “double-double” and establish career-highs in both categories. Senior
Jake Carwell also recorded a “double-double” with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He also distributed a career-high nine assists and had three steals. Junior guard
Andrew Jahns scored 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field with seven assists. Junior
John Shackelford was 6-for-8 from the field as he established career-highs of 13 points and eight assists. Senior co-captain
Ben Panner scored 11 points, with six rebounds and five assists.
Dylan Seelman led Grinnell with 19 points, as he made six three-pointers.
Griffin Lentsch scored 14 points for the Pioneers.
Matt Skelly scored 11 points and
Xander Strek added 10 points, while
Matt Cahlupa scored nine points.
Wheaton out-rebounded the Pioneers 59-28, with a 14-13 advantage for the Thunder on the offensive glass. The Thunder shot a 69.4% (59-85) field goal percentage, with 60% (9-15) from the free throw line. Grinnell shot 38.1% (32-84) from the floor, with 30.4% (14-46) from behind the three-point arc and 59.5% (22-37) at the charity stripe.
