Bloomington, Ill. -- The Wheaton women's soccer team began postseason play on Saturday afternoon by traveling to central Illinois for a CCIW Tournament quarterfinal match. The hosting Illinois Wesleyan University Titans are the fourth seed in this year's conference tournament and Wheaton is the fifth seed, with the two sides drawing 0-0 at Joe Bean Stadium in their regular season matchup last month. Today's game also ended in a tie, but the Thunder triumphed, 4-3, in the resulting penalty kick shootout to advance to Wednesday's semifinal round. Saturday's outcome marked Wheaton's first penalty shootout victory in all competitions since November 2021 and first shootout win in the CCIW Tournament since topping today's opponent in the 2011 Championship match. Naperville, Ill. -- Riding a five-game unbeaten streak and having already secured its place in this year's CCIW Tournament, the Thunder women's soccer team took the short drive over to North Central College on Wednesday night for the final match of the regular season. The hosting Cardinals earned a 2-0 victory tonight to claim an outright regular season conference title, marking the second time in the last three years that NCC has won the trophy with a perfect 8-0-0 record in league play. Wednesday's result, combined with 1-0 victories for both Carthage and Illinois Wesleyan in their matches, saw Wheaton finish in fifth place in the CCIW standings with a conference record of 3-2-3, narrowly missing out on the opportunity to host a quarterfinal fixture this weekend. Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton women's soccer sought to get back to its winning ways on Wednesday against the Caroll Pioneers after playing to draws in two straight matches, including last week's thriller against Milikin on Senior Day, which saw a late equalizer from the Thunder. Wheaton came in riding a four-game unbeaten streak and both goalies in tonight's match have dominated conference play. Each goalie is second in the conference in clean sheets with two apiece. Wheaton broke Caroll's streak against them today in a convincing 3-1 victory tonight. With the win, Wheaton moves to 6-4-6 on the season, Caroll 5-5-5.
