West Dundee, Ill. -- Six months after concluding its fall season at the CCIW Championship, the Thunder women's golf team finally returned to competition on Tuesday morning. Wheaton traveled to West Dundee for the opening event on its spring schedule, the Judson University Invitational. Wheaton finished eighth at this year's championship and concluded the event with its best round of the three-day competition. Friday and Saturday's eight-team competition was played over two rounds at the South Side Country Club, and after today's final scores were counted up, Wheaton earned a fifth-place finish in the event. Kansasville, Wis. -- Three days after hosting the CCIW Preview, the Wheaton women's golf team traveled north across state lines to take part in another annual competition, the Midwest Region Fall Classic hosted by Benedictine University. The large event was held at Brighton Dale Links in Wisconsin and was scheduled to consist of two 18-hole rounds over the course of Friday and Saturday. But today's second round was interrupted by lightning and severe weather, so the tournament was changed to a single-round scoring format and only Friday's results were counted in the official tabulation. Four Wheaton golfers competed in this weekend's Classic, and despite rising up to 25th when the tournament was prematurely halted, the Thunder had to settle for a 29th-place finish in the 39-team event based on Friday's results. The Thunder competed alongside five other teams from four fellow conference programs in Tuesday's single-round event at the Metamora Fields Golf Club. Augustana College emerged as the competition winners, while Wheaton placed sixth in the team standings. Abby Crutchley and Emma Lee tied for 18th place in the 39-golfer field as the Thunder's top performers this afternoon. West Chicago, Ill. -- After a week away from the links, the Wheaton women's golf team returned to competition on Wednesday morning when it took the short drive over to St. Andrews Golf Club for Benedictine University's Fall Invitational. The Thunder competed against 21 other squads in today's single-round tournament, and Wheaton came in 14th place in the team standings.
