Willis Gale, a 1926 graduate, participated in football, basketball and baseball during his time as a student athlete at Wheaton. Gale was known as a hard nose competitor who made a positive influence on his teammates. Gale’s biggest impact may have been when he joined the Wheaton faculty in 1947. He was the longtime director of the Boys’ Camp at Honeyrock, coached most of the Bomber teams at the College, and was director of the intramural sports program. He also was general director of the Spring Festivals held on the campus for years. Gale started the gymnastics and hockey programs as varsity sports, and revived golf.
