Wendall Harris participated with distinction in two varsity sports at Wheaton in the late 1940s. As a member of the football team for three seasons, he played defensive back. But he earned most of his recognition as a Crusader wrestler. At that time, Wheaton was defeating such major schools as Bradley, Wisconsin, Illinois State, and Northwestern, and Harris posted solid records each year. He twice won the championship of his weight class at the Wheaton Invitational, during his freshman and sophomore seasons, and an injury his senior year kept him from winning it again. Wendall also served as co-captain of the wrestling team his senior season.
