Sunnie Kemp Killeen had an outstanding basketball career for the Crusaders and made an impact right away by grabbing 246 rebounds, blocking 123 shots, and setting a freshman record with 429 points. She also was named to the American Women’s Sports Foundation (AWSF) Freshman All-American team and the All-Chicago Metro Conference First Team. Kemp was invited to St. Louis to try out for the 1984 U.S. Olympic Team.

As a sophomore, Kemp set a record for point average (20.5), including a school-record 45 points against Illinois Wesleyan, and averaged 9.5 rebounds. Again she earned team MVP and All-CMC First Team honors. In 1984-85, she averaged 19.9 points and 9.6 rebounds with 60 blocked shots, earning her third First Team All-CMC honor, and as a senior averaged 19.2 points and 10.1 rebounds with 111 blocked shots. Kemp was named AWSF National Player of the Week in December, 1985 and passed the 1,500 point mark, earning AWSF Honor Roll recognition. Sunnie capped her career with All-CMC honors for the fourth time and was named AWSF Great Lakes Region Player of the Year and AWSF NCAA Division III All-American First Team. She graduated as Wheaton’s all-time leader with 1,802 points, 919 rebounds, 359 blocked shots, 814 field goals, a 19.8 scoring average and a 10.1 rebound average.
