During his time at Wheaton, Steve King was a excellent contributor to the success of the Crusader swim teams in the mid-1980s. King won the 1987 NCAA Division III Championship in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events. He also earned additional All-American honors and was a four-time CCIW Champion as well.
King reminisces of his time at Wheaton, “My favorite athletic memories at Wheaton are associated with the unity and togetherness of the swim team. Although there are many good memories of the pure exhilaration after finishing a significant race, the more lasting memories include face painting for football games, relentless cheering and encouragement for team members, in addition to a true concern for the well being of each other. I have never experienced a ‘teamness’ like I did with the Wheaton swim team.”
