Sharon Swanberg played four sports at Wheaton in a day when athletic opportunities for women at Wheaton were labeled “extramurals.” While softball, field hockey, and volleyball information is largely unavailable, some of Swanberg’s basketball exploits are more detailed. As a freshman, she led the team in scoring with 48 points in eight games and Wheaton’s record was 6-2 that season. Wheaton was 11-1 in Swanberg’s sophomore season which was highlighted by a 39-25 win over Northern Illinois where Sharon scored 20 points, the most by any Wheaton player that season. As a junior, she was second in scoring with 94 points in 12 games, 11 of which Wheaton was victorious. In her senior season, Wheaton was 10-2.
