Sharon DeFraites Clark excelled in basketball, volleyball, tennis and field hockey during her time at Wheaton in the 1960s. Sharon’s most success came on the basketball court where she scored 345 career points, and led Wheaton to a 41-3 record during her career. She was third on the team in scoring as a freshman, sophomore, and senior and second as a junior. It was the era of two-court basketball with 36-minute running time games.

“Sharon was one of the best shooters,” remembers Coach Martha Baptista. “She had quick hands on defense, good court sense, and was an unselfish team player.”

She is remembered by then-volleyball coach, Marilyn Scribner, as “highly-skilled, very energetic, enthusiastic, encouraging and a natural leader.” Scribner adds, “She was so grateful to God for her skills. Sharon was respected and admired by her teammates.”
