Ron Wertman was a standout pitcher for the Crusader baseball team. He was particularly strong his final two seasons in 1956 and 1957. During his junior season, he had a perfect 4-0 record and a 1.26 earned run average. In addition, Wertman was second in the CCIW in hitting, posting a .452 batting average and had 19 hits to lead the Crusaders in both of these categories. Wertman saved his best performances for his senior season. He led the team in hitting, with a .389 batting average, and he posted a 5-1 win-loss record on the mound.
