A 1963 graduate, Robert Holmes was a solid two-sport athlete during his time as a Crusader but his most notable success came in soccer. Holmes was a Second Team All-American in 1961 and an Honorable Mention All-American selection in 1962 as a soccer player. He also earned All-Region honors in his junior and senior seasons of 1961 and 1962.
His time at Wheaton taught him several life lessons. “Playing a sport for the love of it is a key to success,” Holmes said. “Determination, hard work and just keeping at it can result in great improvement and surprising success. What seems impossible is possible.”
