Rick Havens, a 1969 graduate, was a baseball and football participant during his career as a Wheaton Crusader. As a sophomore in 1967, Havens was named the baseball’s team Most Valuable Player, leading the team with a .340 average and 30 RBI. As a junior, Rick led the CCIW in batting with a .439 average, striking out just twice in 98 at-bats. As a team captain during his senior season of 1969, he was team MVP again when he was second on the team with 11 RBI and a .333 average.
Wheaton Football was 17-10 during Havens’ career. As a sophomore in 1966, Havens intercepted six passes, including three in one game against Alma College. Rick was the starting quarterback his senior season and completed 50 of 108 passes for 730 yards and three touchdowns. He finished his football career with 60 for 131 passing for 865 yards and four touchdowns. He also intercepted nine career passes for 99 yards and a touchdown as a defensive back
