Wheaton College Athletics

A 1950 graduate, Richard Simmons teamed with fellow Hall of Honor member Dale Oxley to form an imposing offensive tackle tandem on the gridiron, but he achieved his greatest performances on the wrestling mat as a heavyweight wrestler. During his time at Wheaton, Simmons won four Wheaton Invitational Championships, a title at the prestigious Case Tech tourney, and a fourth-place finish in the 1950 NCAA Championships, which earned him All-American honors.
