Larry Wagner, a 1978 graduate, displayed his athletic talents as a linebacker on the Crusader football team during his time at Wheaton. After his sophomore season in 1975, he received the team MVP award and was presented with the Best Tackler Award after making 109 tackles, 54 of them solo stops and five for losses. Wagner was also an All-CCIW selection. Injuries limited Larry much of the rest of his career but he concluded his career with 259 tackles.
Wagner says of his time at Wheaton, “My most meaningful memories I have about Wheaton athletics are the personalities of my teammates and coaches. Due to a variety of reasons, including shared joys and sorrows, interdependency for achieving common goals and a love for the game, I have never experienced a closer bond to a group of individuals in my life.”
