Kerry Otterby played second base for Wheaton baseball and guard for the basketball team, both coached by Lee Pfund. Wheaton was 44-42 in baseball and 50-50 in basketball during Otterby’s four seasons. Otterby had a .298 career batting average with 10 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 35 stolen bases, 50 RBI and 50 runs in 87 games in 1962-64 and 1966. He also averaged 7.7 points and 4.1 rebounds in 80 basketball games from 1962-1966. Otterby was baseball’s Most Valuable Player as a freshman in 1962 and was named an All-American as a junior in 1964. Kerry played for Wheaton during the era when it was not a member of the CCIW, and therefore never received all-conference recognition.
