Karen Peterson Myers is one of only two female track athletes to win an individual national championship. In 1982, she competed at the national meet as part of the 4x100-meter relay team and in the 100-meter hurdles. Peterson and the relay squad finished fourth overall, and Karen set the school record with a time of 14.57 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to win the event in a photo finish. She calls it “my last hurdle race ever and a great day to peak.”
Peterson notes of a lesson she took away from her Wheaton track and field experience, “Relationships have always been very important to me, and athletics provided me great opportunities to connect with many special people. … It is great to realize how God has placed so many of these special people in my life, for which I am so very grateful. I have also had to learn to appreciate friendships for their season, whether it be short or long.”
