Joe Jerele was a four-year standout for the Wheaton men's soccer program. In 1997, as a freshman, he was a member of the NCAA Division III National Championship team and in 1999; he was a starter for the Division III Runner-up. As a senior in 2000, he was named the CCIW Men's Soccer Player of the Year, ranking second on the team in goals with 10. A Three-time All-CCIW selection, Joe was a NSCAA First Team All-Region selection as a senior in 2000.
Joe reflects, "Any opportunity to play in front of the great crowds at Joe Bean Stadium was meaningful. Winning a National Championship in 1997 was an obvious highlight, but the quality time spent with my teammates has provided my favorite memories. Specifically, our sports ministry trip to Brazil was a great experience. It was an excellent opportunity to travel as a team, experience another culture, play against quality competition, all while sharing the Gospel." He adds, "I was fortunate to play for the Wheaton team that set the All-NCAA Men's Soccer unbeaten-streak record. The closer we approached the 66-game record, the pressure was building. The Wheaton Record even featured a weekly countdown for games-remaining until the record. Ha! It was a rare opportunity to contribute to an accomplishment that the program was striving towards, even before I set foot on campus."
