Jim Hanchett, a 1957 graduate, had a stellar career for the track and cross country teams during his time at Wheaton. As a senior, Hanchett was named the “Crusader of the Year” by the student body in his senior year, representing the top in athletics, academics, and spiritual leadership. Jim set the conference record in the half mile multiple times and also won the mile run his senior season at the conference meet. Over his career, Jim won races at the Wheaton Invitational, Chicago Daily News Relays, Milwaukee Relays, Beloit Relays, Elmhurst Relays, and finished fifth in the prestigious open mile at Madison Square Garden.
