Jerry Truax, a 1956 graduate, was instrumental in Wheaton basketball’s fourth-place finish in the NAIA National Tournament in 1956 and their 27-4 overall record that season. Truax finished his career with 1,078 points as a forward who could defend and rebound and was twice named team MVP. Jerry scored a career-high 36 points against North Central and poured in 23 in a stunning upset at Gustavus Adolphus. In 1955-1956, co-captain Truax hit 152 of 194 free throws as one of the nation’s small college leaders in free throw percentage (78%). He was both an All-Conference and All-American selection.
