Jane Nelson combined successful playing careers in basketball and tennis from 1979-83. Wheaton basketball had a 57-35 record during her four seasons. Nelson was the second Crusader women’s basketball player to reach the 1,000-career point mark. She finished her career with 1,182 points, 542 rebounds, 163 steals, 141 assists and a career scoring average of 12.1. Nelson received All-Chicago Metro Conference Second Team honors at the conclusion of her senior season.

On the tennis court, Nelson was the AIAW Division III national flight three singles champion and was named AIAW Division III All-American as a freshman. As a junior in 1982, she was the doubles runner-up in the NCAA Division III national tournament, again earning All-American honors.

Jane has also served as head coach of women's tennis at Wheaton since 1986. As of 2011, she has coached Wheaton to 16 of 24 CCIW Conference Championships that have been contested since 1986.
