For three seasons of soccer (1964-1967), Jim Adare was an explosive scorer from his center-forward position and earned all-conference honors as a junior and senior. Wheaton was 26-10-4 during his three years, including an 11-0-3 season in 1966.

With Don Church as his track coach from 1963-67, Adare ran sprints and hurdles and triple jumped. In his senior season, he placed first in the 60 yard dash and 60-yard hurdles in an indoor triangular meet, and first in the 100-yard dash in eight other meets, including a time of 9.6 seconds in multiple meets that broke the old school record of 9.8 seconds set in 1967. He then bettered his own record in the NCAA College Division Nationals with a mark of 9.5 seconds, which was good for second place in the nation and earned him NCAA All-American honors.
