Fred Brock, a 1957 graduate, made an immediate impact on the Crusader football team by taking his first career carry for 33 yards and a touchdown. He went on to cross the goal line 21 more times for a total of 22 career touchdowns for Wheaton. Fred averaged a then-record 8.2 yards per carry as a freshman and 6.9 as a senior when he was named MVP, scoring 55 points in conference play. One of the most versatile backs in the two-way-play 1950s, Fred ranked in four offensive categories his junior year, including both receiving and punting. He played on four conference championship teams and was selected Second Team on the All-State-of-Illinois team.
