    Don Hudgens transferred to Wheaton in 1953 from Indiana University. As a sophomore for the Crusaders, he averaged 7.1 points per game and averaged 10 points a game as a junior. In his senior season, he averaged 9.1 points per game. As a junior, he was commended by many league coaches as the “team’s best defensive player inside.” Over Hudgens' three seasons at Wheaton, he helped the team to a 55-22 record including a 27-4 record and a fourth-place finish in the NAIA National Tournament his senior season. 
Don went onto a career in teaching and coaching including a five-year stint as an assistant men’s basketball coach for the Crusaders from 1976-1981.
