Dave Kouwe starred both as a forward and sweeper back on four winning men's soccer teams that went 66-17-9 culminating in the Crusaders’ first NCAA Division III soccer national title in 1984 with a 21-1-2 record. The timeliest of his 23 career goals were the two that beat Brandeis, 2-1, in the national championship game. The first at 10:33 and the clincher a penalty kick at the 155th minute in the third overtime. Wheaton preceded this with three Midwest Metropolitan Soccer Conference championships, two NCAA Regional firsts. Kouwe was First Team All-American as a senior, Third Team as a junior. He was the 14th all-time assist leader in the Wheaton soccer record book at the time of his induction.
