Dave Blomquist Induction Video
Dave Blomquist was a point-scoring defender on the Wheaton men’s soccer team from 1992-95. Blomquist was a two-time First Team All-Conference honoree and 1995 CCIW Player of the Year. In addition to being named All-Region in 1994, he was also a Third Team All-American in his senior year of 1995.
An important lesson that Blomquist learned was to keep his priorities in line and focus on what was most really important. “Putting God first and my teammates second, above me and above the wins or losses,” he said. “I learned that when you have great people as teammates, the wins are that much higher and you recover from the losses that much quicker. I also learned perseverance is most effective when accompanied by a positive attitude.”
“When I was a freshman some of the older players, such as Doug Collins, took me under their wings, showing me the value of relationships and demonstrating how to build into the lives of others,” Blomquist said. “The relationships that I built during my four years at Wheaton are my strongest; my teammates Erik Gilmer and Mike Shearon are still my closest friends.” Coaches Joe Bean and Tim Sezonov were also cited by Blomquist as having a tremendous impact as mentors and friends.
Bean recalled his All-American center back as a scorer just as much as a defender. “He actually led the team in scoring from the back, because he came up for corner kicks and did a great job,” Bean said. “Now he’s a very successful coach at Azusa Pacific. I’m very proud of him.”
Dave is the head men’s soccer coach at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif.
