Voted Most Improved Player when he played soccer for the first time ever as a sophomore, Cliff McCrath kept improving until his Honorable Mention All-American senior year. The fullback was key in a defense that shut out seven opponents over three seasons and earned Cliff an All-Conference selection three times and All-Midwest twice.
McCrath launched his subsequent brilliant coaching career by leading the Crusaders to a 1959 conference championship. He went on to lead Seattle Pacific University to five NCAA Division II National Championships and 597 career victories, which is second to Joe Bean in collegiate soccer coaching victories.
