Cleburne Price compiled a successful track career at Wheaton participating in numerous events for the Crusaders. Cleburne stepped right into success with three first-place finishes at the North Central Invitational during his first indoor season. Elected co-captain of the indoor squad in 1952, Cleburne led the team to many victories through the season, including three blue ribbons at the Midwest Relays. Price enjoyed his greatest success in the spring, as he set a Crusader record of 9.9 in the 100-yard dash. At the CCI meet he place in six events, including four firsts, a second, and a tie for third which accumulated 24 6/7 team points all by himself. Cleburne amassed 20 team points for the Crusaders in the long jump, dashes, and hurdles in another dual meet that year. Before he graduated, he had set records in the 100, 220, 110 hurdles, 220 low hurdles, broad jump and javelin. Wheaton won three CCI titles during his years.

After graduation, Price coached at Dallas Baptist University and the University of Texas as an assistant coach. He was promoted to Head Track and Cross Country coach at UT in 1971 and served in that position until 1985. During his 15 season tenure as head coach, Price achieved numerous accomplishments, including 12 SWC team championships (two in cross country, two in indoor track & field, eight in outdoor track & field). He coached 46 individual SWC Outdoor Champions, 21 individual SWC Indoor Champions, and five NCAA individual champions. His athletes earned a total of 75 All American honors. Price also coached 11 Olympians during his career, including Gold Medalist Johnny Lam Jones. Price was inducted into the United States Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005 and is also a member of the University Of Texas Athletics Hall Of Honor.
