Clarence Mason is one of a very few athletes in Wheaton’s history to earn 14 varsity letters, with four each in basketball and baseball, and three each in football and tennis. In football, Clare played both ways while playing every minute of every game on offense and defense as a senior. As a basketball player, Clare was best known as a strong defensive player and rebounder. He was captain of the baseball team in 1924 as a slick-fielding first baseman and four-year regular on the diamond.
