Bruce Benson was a standout shortstop for the Wheaton baseball team during the mid 1950s. Benson set single-season and career records that were not broken for over 35 years. Bruce was named an All-American shortstop as a senior and played professional baseball for two years after his playing career at Wheaton. As a freshman, Bruce hit three home runs in one game. At the time of his graduation, Benson finished his career with the highest batting average, highest slugging percentage, and most RBIs in school history. Bruce was also a member of the 1951 baseball team, which won the only conference championship in school history.
