The 1958 Football Team, coached by Harve Chrouser, posted a spotless 8-0 record and won the CCI with a 6-0 mark. That year, Wheaton defeated Northern Illinois, 40-20, in the opener and followed that with a 48-0 shutout of Lake Forest. Then they beat Augustana, 67-12, Elmhurst, 90-6, and Millikin, 26-0, to set up a contest between two unbeaten teams. Wheaton prevailed over Carroll, 16-12, and then beat North Central, 33-6, at Homecoming. In the final game, Wheaton topped Illinois Wesleyan, 37-17. Ten Crusaders were named to the All-CCI first team at the conclusion of the season and Bob Bakke and Dick Plaep each earned All-American honors.
