Wheaton, Ill.- The Wheaton Thunder men's tennis team placed three players on the 2013 All-CCIW Team.
Josh Ward and
David Buursma were Second Team honorees and
Ryan Kreis was named the CCIW Player of the Year. The Thunder compiled a record of 13-7 this season and finished runner up to Elmhurst in the CCIW Tournament.
Kries posted an 18-1 record this season as Wheaton 's number-one singles player and was ranked fifth in the Division III Central Region in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association
(ITA) rankings. He was recently selected to participate in the upcoming NCAA-III Men's Tennis Singles Championship in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is Wheaton's first individual selection for the tournament since Josh Williams in 2007.
Ward compiled a record of 14-5 playing at number-two singles for the Thunder. Ward also teamed with Kreis at number-one doubles, earned a record of 17-2. Ward recorded seven shut-out sets in singles play and won all but two of three of his matches in straight sets.
Buursma was also 14-5 in singles play, competing at the number-three singles position. Additionally, he earned a record of 15-4 at number-two doubles, teaming with
Miles Greenwald. Burrsma earned six three-set victories on the season and was undefeated in regular season CCIW play.
