Thunder women's tennis team to face Principia College on Thursday in NCAA Tournament action in St. Louis

Wheaton, Ill. –
The Wheaton Thunder women's tennis team will participate in a Regional of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship this weekend in St. Louis, Missouri. The Thunder will be competing in the seven-team regional to be hosted by Washington University-St. Louis. Wheaton (16-4) earned its spot in the postseason tournament by winning the CCIW Automatic Qualifier Tournament last weekend in Bloomington, Illinois.

Wheaton (16-2) will face St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champion, Principia College (12-4) on Thursday May, 9 at 9 AM in a First Round match of the tournament. The Wheaton-Principia victor will face Washington University-St. Louis (14-7) on Friday in a Second Round match. Thursday's other First Round matches will feature Franklin College (13-2) playing Coe College (19-4) and DePauw University (17-7) taking on Hope College (13-6). Second Round matches will be played on Friday and the victors from Friday's two Second Round matches will play each other in a Third Round match on Saturday. The winner of Saturday's Third Round match will compete at the eight-team NCAA Division III Championship Finals beginning May 20 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Wheaton will be making its eighth appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Team Championship, and the program's sixth consecutive appearance. Head coach Jane Nelson's program is 8-7 all-time in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Wheaton's most recent appearance in the NCAA Championship was last year when the Thunder competed in a Regional hosted also by DePauw University. Wheaton was a 5-0 victor against Webster University in last year's First Round match and the Thunder bowed of the tournament in the Second Round in a 5-1 loss against DePauw.
