Luke Vance takes third in the 800-meter run to lead Wheaton's efforts at Division III Track Nationals

 Wheaton junior James Waterman, senior Parker Thompson and senior Luke Vance are representing the Wheaton Men's Track & Field Team at the 2013 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships, hosted by UW-La Crosse this weekend. Luke Vance capped off Wheaton's performance with a third place finish in the men's 800-meter run.

SATURDAY RECAP
Senior Luke Vance concluded his outstanding collegiate running career with a third-place finish in the finals of the men's 800-meter run to earn All-American accolades for the fifth time in his career. Vance posted a time of 1:51.23, just behind second-place Sean Royer of UW-La Crosse in 1:50.51 and National Champion Robert Willett of Birmingham Southern's time of 1:49.95. Today's third-place finish is Vance's top career finish at Nationals in his three appearances at the Division III Outdoor Championships. COMPLETE 800-METER RUN RESULTS

FRIDAY RECAP
Luke Vance posted the second-fastest time out of the 20 competitors in the three preliminary heats on Friday in the men's 800-meter run. His time of 1:50.79 seconds was the top time in the second heat, just behind the top time of Birmingham Southern's Robert Willett (1:50.31) in the third heat. Vance will compete in the nine-man finals on Saturday at 4:30 PM. It is the third consecutive year he has appeared in the finals of the 800-meters.

THURSDAY RECAP

James Waterman made a strong late push to post a time of 9:05.099 in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, qualifying for the finals in the event on Saturday at 2:10 PM. Waterman had the second-fastest time in Thursday's second prelim race, finishing just behind the top-finisher in the heat, Michael LeDuc of Connecticut College in 9:05.091.

Waterman had the fourth-fastest time of the 20-runners in Thursday's prelims. Jack Davies of Middlebury posted the top prelim time (9:03.49), followed by Dawson Miller of UW-Whitewater (9:05:08), LeDuc, Waterman and Bennett Naden of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (9:05.15). Senior Parker Thompson (PICTURED LEFT) posted a time of 3:53.52 to finish 13th out of 20 runners in the prelims of the men's 1,500-meter run.Thompson narrowly missed qualifying for Saturday's 12-man finals in the event by 0.22-seconds.
