Michael Kaufman each earned First Team All-CCIW selections. Additionally, Kaufman was the inaguaral winner of the CCIW Baseball Newcomer of the Year award.
Michael Kaufman had an outstanding freshman season to earn the CCIW Newcomer of the Year award, in addition to First Team All-CCIW accolades as a pitcher. He is the first Wheaton pitcher to earn First Team All-CCIW recognition since Tim Urbanowicz in 2009. He compiled a 6-2 record this season in 11 appearances, including nine as the starting pitcher. Kaufman posted a 1.68 ERA that is the lowest by a Wheaton starting pitcher since 1997 and the second lowest ERA at Wheaton since 1967. In 80-1/3 innings he held opponents to a .244 batting average, with 57 strikeouts and just 14 walks. Kaufman was 4-1 with one save in CCIW play this spring with a 2.26 ERA in 51-2/3 innings as he made seven appearances, including six starts, with one complete game. He held conference opponents to a .246 batting average, with 31 strikeouts and nine walk.
Justin Swider (PICTURED LEFT) earns All-CCIW recognition for the second consecutive year. He is a First Team All-CCIW pick as an outfielder this spring, following Second Team All-CCIW honors in 2012 at second base. Swider led the Thunder with a .320 (55-for-172) batting average this year. He drove in a team-best 35 RBI, with 27 runs scored. His seven doubles led the club and he collected two home runs on the year. In conference play, Swider hit a league-best .418 (38-for-91) batting average, with 27 RBI and 18 runs scored.
Phil Tuttle (PICTURED RIGHT) picked up First Team All-CCIW recognition in the infield as the Thunder first baseman. Tuttle hit .309 (43-for-139) this year, with 22 RBI and 26 runs scored. He posted a team-high .437 on-base percentage and had a stellar defensive season, making only one error at first base on a school-record 443 total chances. Tuttle leaves the Thunder program ranked second in school history with a .997 career fielding percentage, making just two errors in four years on 572 total chances. In CCIW play, Tuttle hit .289 (22-for-76), with a league best 20 runs scored and 17 RBI.
