Members of the Wheaton College men's and women's track and field teams are competing at some of the final meets of the year, in hopes of qualifying for next weekend's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Claremont, California. The NCAA will announce the participants for Nationals on Sunday.
At the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse Qualifier on Wednesday night, senior
Renee Bettinger (PICTURED ABOVE) broke her own school-record in the women's 100-meter dash twice. Bettinger posted the top time in Friday's prelims with an effort of 12.05-seconds, to best her previous school-record of 12.09-seconds. Bettinger continued to trim her time with a new school-record effort of 11.99-seconds in the finals that is the ninth-fastest time in Division III this year and puts her in a strong position to qualify for Nationals for the second consecutive year in the event.
FULL RESULTS FROM UW-LACROSSE QUALIFIER
In the first day of competition at North Central's Gregory Invitational,
Mark Phillips posted a time of 31:12.35 in the men's 10,000-meter run to finish second in the event. On Friday
Jake Waterman took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:06.09 that is ranked 14th in Division and makes him a strong possible qualifier for Nationals.
Parker Thompson was sixth int he men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.28.
The Thunder women's 4x400 meter relay team of
Emily Schwaller,
Mali Langlie,
Britta Eastburg and
Debbie Knubley set a new school record in the event with a time of 3:52.53.
Annie Shults took third in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:01.41. Senior
Jaime Orewiler ran the 800-meters in 2:11.65 to finish in third place.
