Women's tennis opens NCAA Tournament with a 5-0 win against Webster University

Greencastle, Ind. – The Wheaton women's tennis team opened up its participation in the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship with a 5-0 victory against Webster University on Thursday morning on the campus of DePauw University. Wheaton is now 20-2 on the year, and will face the host Tigers of DePauw (17-6) on Friday at 10 AM. Webster, the champions of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, ends the year with a record of 19-2.

Wheaton jumped ahead of the Gorlocks early in the team scoring by opening today's match with three wins in doubles play. The Thunder number-one doubles team of Elizabeth Worsowicz (PICTURED ABOVE) and Sarah Ray earned an 8-1 win against Webster's Paige and Allison Tungate. The number-two doubles team of Melanie Milling and Marissa Shults earned an 8-1 win against the Webster team of Lindsey Hays and Lauren Hacker. The third doubles victory for the Thunder came at number-three doubles as the tandem of Kirsten Boyer and Julia Carey picked up an 8-3 win at number-three doubles against the team of Marissa Lewis and Kathleen Kennedy from Webster.

Worsowicz was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Piage Tungate at number-one singles. The Thunder secured the 5-0 victory with the decisive fifth win in a 6-0, 6-0 victory by Carey against Webster's MacKenzie Wilder at number-six singles.
