Trey Martin and Justin Zeller are named to D3baseball.com Preseason All-American Team

– Wheaton College junior Trey Martin and senior Justin Zeller have both been named to the 2012 D3baseball.com Preseason All-American Team. Martin has been named as a First Team utility selection for his play both as a third baseman and pitcher. Zeller earned an honorable mention nod in the outfield.

Martin (PICTURED RIGHT) earned his selection as a utility player for his dual performance as both a third baseman and pitcher. In 2011 Martin posted a team-high a .362 (54-for-149) batting average for the Thunder with eight home runs and 11 doubles. He drove in 36 runs with 33 runs scored and tied for the team-lead with 54 base hits, the 10th-highest single season hit total in school history. On the mound, he posted a 4-5 record, with a team-best 46 strikeouts in 10 starts. The sophomore worked four complete games in 73-2/3 innings this season. His team-leading 2.93 ERA was the lowest by a Wheaton pitcher, with at least 30 innings pitched, since 2006; and the second-lowest since 1998.

In two seasons at Wheaton, Martin has compiled a .332 (91-274) batting average, with 62 RBI and 61 runs scored and 12 career home runs. On the mound he has an 8-6 record, 111 innings pitched. Martin has complied a career ERA of 3.73 in 17 career games and has struck out 76 batters.

Justin Zeller
Zeller (PICTURED LEFT) is a two-time All-Region selection, and was a postseason All-American following his sophomore campaign. He hit .355 (54-for-152) for the Thunder last season, with a team-best nine home runs. Zeller scored 39 runs and tied for the team lead with 43 RBI and a team-best .453 on-base percentage. Zeller's nine home runs in 2011 is the third-highest single-season total in school history, his 43 RBI is sixth in Wheaton's single-season record books and his 54 base hits is tied for 10th.

In three seasons at Wheaton, Zeller has posted a .365 (167-for-457) career batting average with a school-record 28 career home runs; while his batting average is fourth-highest in school history. He is tied for second all-time at Wheaton with 129 runs scored and is third with 167 career base hits. Zeller has driven in 145 runs in his career, the second-highest total in school history and is 33 career doubles is third all-time at Wheaton.
