COMPLETE MEN'S RESULTS
River Forest, Ill. – The Wheaton men's and women's track and field teams competed at 2011 Cougar Invite, hosted by Concordia University-Chicago. The Thunder women's track and field program was second in a 13-team field and the Thunder men finished second out of 11 teams.
Illinois-Chicago won the women's meet with 153 points, followed by Wheaton with 131 points in second place, Loyola-Chicago scored 80 points in third place, Concordia-Chicago took fourth with 70.5 points and Trinity Christian scored 64 points in fifth place.
Wheaton's
Renee Bettinger won the women's 100-meter dash with a time of strong performance of 12.20-seconds. Bettinger provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships, by trimming 0.11-seconds off of her previous provisional qualifying time of 12.31-seconds that came last Wednesday at Wheaton Twilight Meet.
Debbie Knubley posted a time of 26.44-seconds to finish second in the 200-meter dash.
Britta Eastburg recorded an effort of 1:00.13 to finish second in the 400-meter dash.
Jaime Orewiler won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:26.4 and
Annie Shults posted a time of 11:32.4 to finish second in the event.
Jennifer Anderson finished second in the women's 5,000-meter run in 18:53.04. Thunder senior
Sara Greeley took third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:56.89.
Jayne Jaderholm posted a time of 16.16-seconds to finish second in the 100-meter hurdles. Sophomore
Hannah Velling finished third in the javelin throw with a toss of 96' 9” in the event.
The Thunder quartet of
Lucy Mentzer, Carolyn Schwallwer,
Tiffany Overlien and Bettinger won the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 49.79-seconds. Wheaton also won the 4x400-meter relay a time of 4:02.40 for the grouping of
Emily Schwaller, Eastburg, Jaderholm and Knubley.
Illinois-Chicago won the men's team competition with 170 points, Wheaton scored 142.5 points in third place, Concordia-Chicago scored 97.5 points in third place, Aurora was fourth with 84 points and Benedictine finished fifth with 79 points.
Wheaton sophomore
Parker Thompson won the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:00.67, just ahead of teammate
Nate Veldt in second place with 4:03.51. Thompson also competed in the 800-meter run, finishing second with a time of 1:56.26 and
Luke Vance was right behind him with a time of 1:56.29 in third place.
Alec Shunk recorded an effort of 9:49.6 to finish second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Jonathan Hitchcock took second place in the high jump with a leap of 6' 2”.
Justin Berger recorded an effort of 166' 9” to finish second in the javelin throw and teammate
Barrett Ahrberg was third in the event with toss of 155' 10”. Berger also finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 146' 11.
