Tim McCrary and Ben Panner each named to D3hoops.com All-Midwest Region Team

– Two members of the Wheaton men's basketball team have been recognized with 2009-10 All-Midwest Region accolades by D3hoops.com. Tim McCrary earned First Team All-Region honors from the website, while senior Ben Panner was a Third Team selection. Wheaton posted a 19-9 record this season, advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.

Wheaton was one of only two schools to place two players on the All-Midwest Region Team, Washington University (Mo.) was the other. Panner and McCrary were one of only 13 teammate tandems to earn All-Region honors in the eight All-Region teams that were selected among a pool of 676 nominees nationally.

McCrary earned All-Region honors this season following selection as the D3hoops.com Midwest Region Rookie of the Year last year as a freshman. McCrary was a unanimous All-CCIW selection at forward this season after averaging a team-best 18.2 points per game on 54.2% (200-369) shooting from the field. McCrary led the Thunder and the CCIW in rebounding with 8.9 boards per game and also distributed a team-high 4.8 assists per game. He also tallied 1.1 blocked shots per game, with 1.3 steals per game. McCrary registered nine “double-doubles” this season, tallying double digits in both points and rebounds in a game, with one “triple-double” to his credit with double digits in points, rebounds and assists.

Panner, a three-time All-CCIW selection, had a tremendous senior campaign for the Thunder. He averaged 17 points per game this season, with 41.7% (58-139) field goal percentage from three-point range and 81.4% (79-97) at the free throw line. A starter in each of Wheaton's 114 games over the past four seasons, Panner is in 12th place on Wheaton's all-time scoring list with 1,499 career points. He is also seventh in school history with 179 career three-pointers and ninth on Wheaton's all-time assists list with 282.
