Fort Stewart, Ga. – The #24-ranked Wheaton women's golf team won its opening event of the spring with a first place finish as the Coca Cola Intercollegiate. Wheaton paired a 348 today with yesterday's 350 for a two-day total of 698. UT-Tyler, a NCAA Championship qualifier last year, shot a two-day total of 726. Thunder head coach Jay Martin noted, this was a good test for us to face a team that we saw last year at the NCAA Championships.
Debby Bouzeos was the top finisher for the Thunder and was the event's medalist. Bouseos shot a team-best 83 on Saturday and carded an 88 on Friday for two-round total of 171 to win the event.
Brittany Bronson shot an 87 on Saturday, with an 88 on Friday to finish second with a two-round total of 175.
Rachel Beveridge tallied an 88 in each round for a two-round total of 176 to finish third. Wheaton golfers took the top four spots as
Casi Blanton shot a 90 on Saturday to go along with an 86 on Friday for a two-day total of 177 to put her in fourth place.
Rachel Carlson carded a 93 on Friday and had a 90 on Saturday for a two-round total of 183 in eighth place. . Freshman Michelle Morencey participated as an individual and carded a two-round total of 211.
The women's golf team will be off until April 9-10 when it competes at the St. Francis Spring Invitational in Joliet, Illinois.
